Etsy Craft Party AU

Saturday, June 7, 2014

Last night, creative event organiser Unleash Creative partnered with boutique textile company Frankie and Swiss to host an Etsy Craft Party, in a global meeting and making celebration taking place all over the world on 6 June 2014.

Melbourne creatives united, with close to 80 crafters gathering in Frankie and Swiss' magnificent first floor studio, in the city's oldest and funkiest inner-city suburb, South Yarra.

Etsy initiated a Craft Party DIY project idea to embroider and embellish old photographs:

"In our digital world, physical photographs have become a thing of the past—hiding out in drawers, closed albums, and dusty frames. At this year’s Craft Party, we’ll transform your photographs into display-worthy works of art using a variety of craft supplies and creative techniques." Etsy Craft Party 2014
Photographs were merely a suggestion, with many choosing postcards and digital media prints as an alternative.  My creative friends from Nanna Cool Markets collected a stash of thrifted op shop greeting cards to jazz up - a mighty fine upcycle idea I thought.

We congregated on our craft tables and got to work on our pictures of past and present, using on-trend neon embroidery thread, beads, glitter and glue accompanied by a mountain of cake, biscuits, sweet and savoury treats and a bucket load of tea and coffee.

I chose to revamp a tiger face Taronga Zoo fundraiser postcard for my project, adding citrus eyelashes, an orange heart nose, glitter glue stripes and a word of optimism.

Honestly, I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday night out than an evening of craft, cake and tea drinking with a group of my close friends (unless of course the night also involves wine and dancing) and that is exactly what happened last night in Melbourne's coolest inner-city South-East suburb, South Yarra.

Big crafty love to all involved.
