I had an idea when I saw the scarves on display in my local op shop last week selling for $1 each. I found two silk scarves I liked and thought I'd have a go at making an repurposed silk scarf summer top.
:: $1 Silk Scarves ::
Here's how:
I first made sure the smaller of the two scarves would be an adequate fit around the side of my body, and be an acceptable length.
- I've trimmed down the larger of the two with pinking sheers so that each scarf matches in size.

- Re-hemmed approximately 1cm in from raw edge.
- Pinned the two scarves together, best sides facing each other, and stitched together in four straight lines as shown, leaving a gap at the top for my head, and two gaps either side for my arms:
- Turn the right way, and wear
:: a little baby interruption ::
I can wear my repurposed silk scarf summer top either way, which side do you prefer?

oh this is a grand idea….i love wearing silk in hot weather because it breathes…and apart from looking glamorous in the heat, the best thing is that with a high neck and "cap" sleeves the décolletage and shoulders are protected from sunburn. Don't know about you but I am finding the sun is suddenly stronger than it used to be, and I burn faster, so am hunting for tops which provide a bit more protection while still looking elegant. You nailed it!
oh…like both ways but prefer the paisley at the front…
Love it. I'm partial to the striped side. Good luck in the next heat wave this weekend. I'm not a fan myself :(
Lovely! I am going to do this for our summer upcoming, thanks for the how-to.
Baby makes the outfit even better!
Love it and what a cute baby. Congrats! I've totally been playing with scarves myself although here in Canada it's -34 with the windchill. Erm yep totally British to be obsessed with the weather.

Great idea!
I was going to do this awhile back, and I got two beautiful scarves at the thrift store - but I didn't look at the labels. One was polyester and one was wool, and even just pinning them on gave me a hot flash! I must look for some silk ones and try this again because your top looks great!
LOVE! And how the little bubba is growing. Now, I must rummage amongst my scarves to find some silk. I fear much polyester...... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Clever lady!
