Halloween isn't quite as popular on the costume front in Australia as it is in North America, but as far as I'm concerned, any excuse for a dress up should be celebrated!
With Halloween fast approaching, browsing such sites as MrCostumes.com brings forth interesting outfit ideas (quite fond of the roaring twenties outfits myself), and then there are some other DIY costumes seen around the internet which prove a little creativity can go a mighty long way.
One of the most outstanding and beautiful costumes I've seen; Meagan's Princes Merida costume, which derives from Disney's movie Brave:

Cindy from Upcycled Design Lab's really cute Minnie Mouse Outfit is made from all sorts of thrifted and recycled bits and pieces:
On the cute front, Jordan's Little Artist Costumes are the most adorable children's outfits, and cost her less than $15 each:

Lastly, unfortunately I didn't take a photograph, but on a visit to ComicCon in Melbourne this year a costume that looked fantastic yet simple to put together, a female version of Raoul Duke based on Hunter S. Thompson's fictional character from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (played in the movie by Johnny Depp).

Here's how a Raoul Duke outfit could be put together, products shown here are from etsy but could be found in thrift stores or borrowed:

Have you seen, made or put together any interesting costumes recently? Will you be dressing up for Halloween? Do tell!
