Kaftan 2 Top Refashion

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Well, the Kaftan I picked up on my last op shop tour didn't really work out, not even with a large amount of  length chopped off, but I had to do something with that large beachy gradient orange and brown shell fabric!

Oh no!

So it gets a big fat chop, right across the middle..

I've fixed up the bottom hem of the top half cut-off Kaftan, and stitched 6 rows of elastic thread, being my first attempt at shirring.

Which becomes a fitted waist, on a 'new' bat-wing top

The bottom cut-off kaftan becomes a sleeveless blouse, by turning the fabric piece upside down, finishing off cut hem, and stitching two lines inwards on the previous kaftan bottom hem.  Notice there are two small side slits on the previous kaftan bottom hem?  These become armholes.

Sleeveless blouse

The second blouse here, is not too dissimilar, from my skirt to top refashion seen here.  As a result, I've been left with zero waste fabric with this refashion too.  Yay!

Absolute genius! I can't believe you managed a top out of the bottom piece too!

Erica thank you for the comment. That's actually a really good idea. I should have thought of it. It would be a much easier fix than starting all over with a new name.

Hi, I found your blog via Lakota's blog. Love the shirred blouse. Shirring some thrift store finds has been on my 'to do' list for a while. I've even bought the elastic thread. I've bookmarked your previous post linking to the tutorials. Thanks for the post!
