Darting About

A little dart, makes the world of difference.

What's all this darting I talk of? Remember my obi blue dress refashion last month? I received lots of great responses, but I must thank Stitchybritt

"It's definitely a winner - well done!
Can I suggest some small bust darts from under the arms across? In the picture it looks like you've got a little extra fabric bunched up around your chest. But if it's not a problem in real life, don't worry about it. : )"

Dart (sewing) from Wikipedia
Darts are folds sewn into fabric to help provide a three-dimensional shape to a garment. They are frequently used in women's clothing to provide a fit that closely follows the shape of the wearer.

Here is a close up of what my dress looked like prior to extra darts I have just completed, as StitchyBritt says, all that extra fabric bunches up across my chest...

To rectify the situation, I wore my dress inside out, and safety pinned the excess fabric, took it off, and ran it through my sewing machine. Here is a close up of the two new darts...

Before -> After

Bunched fabric, be gone!

It looks so much better with the darts. It is amazing to be able to alter clothes so that they fit like they were made for you.
