Return of the curtain skirt

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Earlier blog followers may remember a skirt I made out of a curtain, pillowcase, and chair cover, for a competition entry to resemble a Bird of Paradise.

I am piecing together hand-made or refashioned outfits to wear every day, in the month of September for Self Stitched September 2011, and to my surprise, I pulled this skirt out of my wardrobe, discovering I can actually wear it as everyday wear, after removing plastic 'bird feathers' from the back.

Skirt: Me-made self-drafted using a friends old curtain, and a thrifted pillowcase.
Underskirt: Me-made (not shown) made from a canvas chair cover.
Shoes: Vintage - thrift
Belt: thrift
Shirt: Country Road - thrift

Who would of thought? Wearing a curtain, pillowcase, and a chair cover all at once!

Absolutely brilliant idea! The mix of textures in this outfit is very interesting and the choice of where you got the fabrics is very clever. Love it all!
