DIY Ikat Tablecloth Dress

Thursday, July 21, 2011

With a little inspiration from last Friday's Herald Sun

Jennifer Hawkins wearing Ikat Print Sass & Bide Dress $590

I've made my own version of an Ikat dress, from a pastel coloured table cloth purchased for $2 from a trash and treasure market.

Using the Collette Sorbetto pattern for the top half of my dress, pink bias tape around the neckline, and blue on the sleeves, adding extra length to make it a dress, and an elastic waist.

Tut, should have ironed, but you get the idea.

Sass & Bide $590
My version approximately $2.20

I love it! What's funny is I can sew but have no idea how to follow a pattern... never looked at one so that might help.

Gorgeous dress Erica, I love it. Such a good use of the border print too. I will be keeping my eyes open for a table cloth now as I go thrifting!

Thanks for your comment on my blog - your dress looks so lovely - great refashion too! I think your table cloth must have been related to my sarong...
