Daggy cool yellow cardigan

Sunday, July 24, 2011

I picked up a 1980's yellow cardigan for $5 from my local op shop this week. Whilst this yellow cardigan has potential, with the best shoulder bows, gold buttons, and made from 100% wool, it doesn't fit so well, a little bit daggy some might say...

(Definition for daggy: uncool, unfashionable)

With a little chopping and resize, daggy cardigan is no longer, I hope you agree?

Shoulder bows!

How to resize in less than half an hour:

Step 1: Find and use an existing well fitting jumper as use as a template
Step 2: Turn cardigan inside out, lay existing jumper on top, and draw a line with chalk outlining jumper against cardigan.

Step 3: Sew a straight line a few cm's away from your chalk line. Try on for size to make sure the fit is not too tight. If OK, cut off excess.
Step 4: Finish off seams (over-lock or zigzag stitch). I also reattached garment care clothing tag.

Step 5: Admire new fit.

i do agree, daggy no longer! so this is how to do it, so simple, and yet i wouldn't have thought of it. i own a couple of opshop cardies that are too 'daggy' (!), i will give it a go and see if i can manage it. great work, the after cardie looks beautiful on you.:-) x
