Little creative pockets exist throughout Melbourne (Australia), and Fitzroy is one suburb falling into this artistic bracket.
There are many small commercial art galleries, artist-run spaces and artist studios located within the suburb. Fitzroy has a thriving street art community and is also the home of Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces and the Centre for Contemporary Photography.*wikipedia
A former junkyard in the back streets of Fitzroy houses the Rose Street Market trading on the weekend, and selling a selection of unique products, handmade by local artists and designers; some emerging, and others more established.
"Since its inception in 2003, The Market has gained the reputation of being one of Melbourne's (and indeed Australia's) hidden treasures"
What can you expect to find at the market? Jewellery and cuff-links made from recycled materials (Greg Mann sells his wares here), photography, lamps, handmade soaps, illustrations, handcrafted clothing, coffee, a little food, and if you want, you can rent a vintage bike for a couple of hours or even the whole week!
Can't make it to Fitzroy, Melbourne? No worries, Rose Street Market also has an online shop
