Oroton Glomesh Bag

Sunday, April 10, 2011

A visit to Sandringham and Brighton op shops scored some treasures this week. Whilst participating in a photoshoot for Bayside Leader newspaper (for my up and coming op shop tour), I spotted an absolute gem in the window of All Souls Op Shop. Possibly my best find to date.

Never underestimate an op shop volunteers' label knowledge.

Me "Would you mind if I have a look at the white bag in the shop window"
Volunteer lady "Oh, you mean the Glomesh bag, it's lovely isn't it"
Me "Yes! The Glomesh bag"
Volunteer lady "That's an Oroton original you know, still with it's packaging and leaflet inside"
Me "Whoooa, I'll take it"

Oroton; one of Australia's leading designer and maker of luxury handbags. I saw a similar bag, with damage, selling for $65 in Salvos last week. On eBay, they can sell for up to $200. This one set me back $20, which is a lot more than I usually pay for anything second hand, but sometimes, you just have to stretch your budget, right?

In other news, I picked up a crochet blanket, and kilt, from the same op shop, and a hat pattern from Brighton.

The crochet granny square blanket, labeled '$1 dog blanket' because of disrepair, but I've already fixed it up with a little sewing.

Before repair

I picked up the vogue accessory sewing pattern in Brighton for a big 50c! Not sure when I'll get around to making one yet, check out the purple hat, middle, bottom row...

And last of all, a kilt for $2. My friend Marie (hello Maz!) inspired me after her kilt op shop purchase last week. It fits me perfectly, but I'll write more about that in another blog post.

Gorgeous bag and well the hat in the middle would certainly be a head turner.... possibly not for the right reasons though! Good finds.

great shopping! hope the tour goes well.
A tip for all when buying a kilt, hold it by the hem so the pleats open out and hold it up to the light. because the pleats are tight and 'dark inside' little mothies and silverfishies LOVE to live in the pleats. I've inspected more than one that when held up like that shows a row of holes along the pleat fold.~ L.
