Upcycled sweater boot free tutorial

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Its winter downunder, and we are cold (in the south of the country particularly). To keep our tootsy's (feet that is) toasty, UGG Australia introduced the 'Classic Cardy' merino wool blend boot, which have been a great success. In fact the Ugg Classic Cardy boots proved so popular they sold out when first introduced to retail stores in 2007. They currently retail for USD $140 online.

But what about these lovely boots?

They look similar don't they? But guess what, they are completely upcycled from an old jumper and pair of flats.

And thanks to funky hand-embroidery crafting website Urbanthreads.com, a full step-by-step tutorial is available online for free!

To recreate your own sweater boots, you'll need:

*A cheap/second hand pair of flat shoes (used for the base)
*An old sweater with big bulky sleeves
*A hot glue gun
*Cutaway stabilizer
*Water-soluble stabilizer
*Embroidery design
*Buttons for embellishment
*Needle and thread

Nice work Urbanthreads! A very clever idea, I quite fancy giving it a go myself.

Once you have a perfect pair of your own, fancy making me some? Don't laziness and uggies peacefully co-exist?

Hi, I found the upcycled sweater boots from urban threads on your blog, but could not find the tutorial on their site. Do you have a copy?

Hmm Deb you are right, the link doesn't appear to go to the boot tutorial anymore, I wonder what happened to it
