CBD 'Opping

A visit to Melbourne CBD cannot go without a visit to one of the very few op shops in town. Did you know there are only 3 op shops in the CBD? Two Brotherhood of St Laurence shops, and one Salvos store at 69 Bourke Street.

The two Brotherhood of St Laurence op shops are in the Royal Arcade, just off Bourke Street mall, one on the ground floor and another on the basement floor. The concept of having two of the same store under one roof is puzzling, but after a rummage, I think I understand. The ground floor is kept for more designer pieces, with a whole rack designated to clothes new with tags. It has more passing foot traffic than the basement that could go unnoticed. The basement is for clothes and other goods that do not fall under the same designer category.

Some of the new with tags clothes on the ground floor were quite lovely, but, being a CBD op shop, do come with an expensive second hand price tag in comparison to the suburbs. However, we are still talking bargain central e.g. brand new SABA shirt for $20..

My luck was in that day I walked into the basement store as they were having a 20% stock take clothing sale. I found a lovely pair of shoes by ‘Urban Sole’ black with silver baubles. $6 with 20% discount, a nice $4.80.

Here they are:

Check out this selection of current flats in a recent magazine, very similar shoes retailing for much more on the high street:

Another successful recycled trend purchase?
